New York City Student Ambassadors

Mandela Day Global Student Charter

Twelve New York City students travelled to Johannesburg in early June to meet with Mr Nelson Mandela and South African students on behalf of 46664 and the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Their goal? To create a living Global Student Charter.

The delegation of New York City public school children wrote winning essays about Mr Mandela’s life and ideals, and how people can act in day-to-day life to make the world a better place. The Mandela Day Global Student Charter will outline how children can inspire others to embrace Nelson Mandela’s values as they seek to improve their lives through service to their communities.

MANDELA DAY CELEBRATES THE IDEA THAT EACH INDIVIDUAL HAS THE POWER TO TRANSFORM THE WORLD, THE ABILITY TO MAKE AN IMPRINT.

On this day, we raise our hands in celebration and renewed commitment to the making of a just society. Nelson Mandela teaches us that every human being can make a positive imprint. One by one, and together, we must continue to encourage open dialogue around social issues. We must transform discourse into action. We have work to do.
