46664 is a not-for-profit organization formed under section 21 of the South African Companies Act. The 46664 campaign began in 2002 when Nelson Mandela realized that entertainment was a powerful way to engage the youth of the world. The global events produced by 46664 use the universal connecting power of music, sports and celebrities to promote community outreach campaigns that encourage people to participate in discussions, educational activities, volunteer work, and HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment support. |
46664, Mr Mandela’s prison number and name for 27 years, is meant to remind us all that people must never be reduced to numbers. 46664 is owned by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established in 1999. The Foundation is a Centre of Memory and Dialogue for Justice whose aim is to contribute to the making of a just society by promoting Mr Mandela’s initiatives to eliminate social injustices around the world. |
